Healthy Valley recently celebrated six years of accomplishments with a memorable evening on October 24, 2000, hosted by Griffin Hospital. The anniversary event brought together a diverse group of individuals from the Valley community to recognize the numerous events and projects of which Healthy Valley played a role during the past six years. Those in attendance enjoyed scrumptious gourmet delights, beautifully prepared and presented by Griffin Hospital's food services staff in an autumn-like atmosphere complete with pumpkins, cornstalks, and fall flowers, generously donated by Jones Tree Farm and Fairview Tree Farm, both located in Shelton. Elegant table centerpieces, the result of the artistic talent of Mary Ann Falcioni, added to the festive ambiance.
Representatives from Griffin Hospital, Pitney-Bowes and Big Y Supermarkets were on hand to receive Program Sponsor Awards for their generous support of the Healthy Valley Project and to accept thanks for being outstanding "community neighbors".
Karen Spargo and Nancy Valentine, co-chairs of Healthy Valley, along with Jack Walsh, Executive Director of the Valley United Way and Bill Powanda, Vice-President of Support Services for Griffin Hospital and chairman of Healthy Valley's coordinating committee, all presented brief, but noteworthy, commentary about Healthy Valley's history and future direction. The evening's festivities ended with applause, hugs, handshakes and good wishes as Healthy Valley begins its 7th year of service to the Valley community!
